Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use Sinoxenica: the learning app at sinoxenica.com, the reader at reader.sinoxenica.com and the Sinoxenica Scanner browser extension. Sinoxenica is run by Siyuan Yan (“we”). By creating an account or using Sinoxenica you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy says how we handle your data.

Your account

You need to be at least 13 (16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, unless a parent agrees) to create an account. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account. One person per account.

Using Sinoxenica fairly

Don't:

• harass other learners, or post anything unlawful, hateful or sexual in profiles, feeds or team pages;
• upload books or other material you have no right to use;
• try to break into, overload or disrupt the service, or get around its limits;
• copy our lessons, dictionaries or other content in bulk, by scraping or otherwise;
• use bots or scripts to earn experience points, climb leagues or game rewards.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

What you add

The books, cards, pictures, posts and other things you add stay yours. You give us permission to store, copy and show them only as far as running Sinoxenica for you needs, for example to sync your books between your devices or to show your profile to other learners. Books you sync are for your own reading; we do not share them with anyone.

Copyright complaints

If you believe something on Sinoxenica infringes your copyright, write to [email protected] with what it is, where it is, and why you hold the rights. We look into every complaint and remove what infringes.

Our content

Lessons, exercises, artwork and the app itself belong to us, and you may use them for your own learning. Our dictionaries and recordings include openly licensed work by others, credited and licensed as listed on the acknowledgments page.

The service

Sinoxenica is free and under active development. Features may change, come and go, and the service may be unavailable at times. We provide it “as is”, without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. Dictionary entries and lessons can contain mistakes; don't rely on them where a mistake would matter.

Liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost data or lost profits arising from your use of Sinoxenica. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Ending

You can stop using Sinoxenica at any time and ask us to delete your account by writing to [email protected]. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

Changes

If we change these terms, we post the new version here with a new date, and tell you in the app or by email before an important change takes effect. If you keep using Sinoxenica after that, the new terms apply.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without affecting mandatory consumer protections where you live.
